Travel within my own backyard

Fast-forward to 2018, my boyfriend and I planned a trip to Botswana because that’s the country where I spent most of my childhood years. It is a land locked country in Southern Africa with 70% of its territory covered by the Kalahari Desert. Despite this factor Botswana has the highest population of African Elephants in the world in its Chobe National Park, which is toward the north of the country.ย Botswana’sย Orapaย mine is the largest diamond mine in the world in terms of value and quantity of carats produced annually. The country is a hidden gem that is a must visit destination.

The continuation of our journey got us to Gaborone, the Capital city of Botswana and despite spending most of my early years there I had never climbed Kgale Hill which is a mountain nicknamed the sleeping giant towards the outskirts of town. It was a pretty steep hike going up but once we reached the summit, the struggle getting up was definitely worth it as we had the view of the entire city around us. The traffic on the roads looked like little ants and I must say that I never realized how lush the city is with a vast number of trees standing tall and proud all around . I had to take a moment to soak in the beauty of mother nature.

The following day we decided to grab a bite to eat at the much recommended Restaurant_Main Deck located at the Main Mall. A place with welcoming aura and amazing staff ready to assist at all times. The menu had quite a few vegetarian options so I chose to get a cheese and tomato toasty with fries which were absolutely divine and my partner had the vegetarian pizza which was super scrumptious. I was so stuffed I had to relax for a little while before I could even stand up! You could definitely tell a lot went behind the creation of the hearty meals. I can’t wait to visit again!!
